Genius Optical mouse

Inside a optical mouse, the major components are a controller and a optical mouse sensor. The red light LED act as a light sourecs, and optical mouse sensor capture the image and compare them, then it transoform it to the motion vector in X, Y, Z cooridination. The mouse controller receives the signal form the sensor and the mouse button, and packs those information into PS2 protocol to communicate with PC.

Avago technologies
The pioner of optical mouse sensor provider is Avago Technologies (formerly Agilent Technologies Semiconductor). Starting from 1999, Avago Technologies has shipped 500 million units of optical mouse sensor . In April 2006, Avago Technologies's Laser-based optical mouse sensor(ADNS-6010) win EDN Magazines Annual Innovation award. The laser illumination is superior to LED-based illumination, which is 20 times the surface-tracking power.

To the PixArt Imaging(PXI), Avago Technologies has filed a lawsuit against to it in U.S Distric Court in Oct.2004, and the action is continued in Taiwan recently. In May 2006, Avago technologies sued PXI in Taiwan court and the lawsuit was filed on the day when PXI listed on Taiwan's OTC market.
