Teardown Report - Mini USB Harddisk

This is a teardown report of a mini USB harddisk made in China. The aluminum case with a PCB board is cost HKD40 only, and you have to buy a notebook harddisk by your own, for a HITACHI 40G harddisk, it just about HKD500.

AU6390 is the major chipset of this product, it is a USB2.0 to ATA/ATAPI bridge controller made by Alcor Mirco Corp.

AU6390 is a designed as a bridge between USB host and ATA/ATAPI storage device such a PC harddisk, CDROM, CD-R/W, DVD-ROM, DVD-R/W...etc. It has a wide rage application in PC peripheral device. Below is the block diagram of the device.
